The abbreviation GT stands for Gran Turismo. Model History
For Volkswagen, the Continental GT, presented in 2003, was the first project since the Bentley takeover in 1998. The 2+2-seater coupé is based on the VW Phaeton and the Audi A8 platform. Besides the chassis with air suspension, permanent all-wheel drive, and automatic transmission, the British car also shares its basic engine design with its corporate siblings. In the Bentley, the engine was boosted to 560 hp through the use of two turbochargers. In 2007, a more powerful version of the Continental GT, called the “Speed,” was launched. Over the course of its production run, the output even increased to 630 hp in the Continental Supersports.
